Unexpectedly gaining some time today, I picked up my basted medallion quilt and made a start on the quilting.
I hated this uneven curving so much I ripped it out.
Much time later I decided on a different quilting design and started again.
I was enjoying the quilting but I didn't notice that it was pulling the alignment of the quilt dramatically.
Yep, this tragedy is making me weep. May be some time before I can face ripping this out....
oh no! The quilt is fantastic, I hope you can fix it with a minimal amount of ripping.
ReplyDeletesuch a shame this has happened and ripping out is always much slower than stitching, like you I think I would be giving it up for a while, maybe though ripping it out first so it will not stay distorted.
ReplyDeleteNNNNOOOOO!!!!! I've had to rip out a full quilt's quiltling before and it's not fun at all. It's worth it, though. Don't think of it as a one night project. Just set it down on the couch and when you watch TV pull out a row or two. You'll be done in no time! I'm so sorry :(
ReplyDeleteOh no I am weeping too for you! Echo what Cindy says - divert your attention and you will get through it quicker. Best way to avoid it happening again - as I really like the effect apart from the distortion - is to stitch in the ditch of every seam in the quilt then it can't shift! Sounds like a lot but it is mindless sewing and will give you the result you are after! I know you can overcome this challenge and come out the other side with a truly wonderful quilt Sarah!
ReplyDeletetake your time .. have a drink (your choice!!) at your side and try NOT to cry on the quilt!! good luck x
ReplyDeleteOh no Sarah :-( You will just have to think of how stunning it will look when it is finished xx
ReplyDeleteOh no! How demoralising! Happy to chat through some options tonight if you want. Jxo
ReplyDeleteDoes not sound like a good day! The third time the quilting will be exactly what you were looking for!
ReplyDeleteOh no! That is a really crap day! Passes over the box of Kleenex :( hugs to you xx
ReplyDeleteThis is making me wince… the thought of unpicking all the quilting :( It will be worth it though as it's too lovely not to!
ReplyDeleteOuch! I would hate to be unpicking all that too... The quilt is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat is so much freaking ripping. I feel for you!
ReplyDeleteThe patchwork looks beautiful. The third time you will get the quilting right!!!
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating!! Seems your not alone though...found this blog post from a well known quilter from a few years back with the same issue. The comments are helpful too...so hope they help you too! http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/problems.html
