.. of the techy variety, that is. I am in need of your wisdom on two fronts - pretty please?
Number one - Google are ditching Google Reader on 1 July and if I don't have another means of following all my favourite blogs by then I will feel like my right arm has been lopped off! I just noticed this post on the Quilting Gallery with some alternative suggestions, but if you know of any others, please would you be kind enough to share? I cannot imagine not having my fave blogs updating in one place - for me it's like having the most ridiculously brilliant magazine at my fingertips and I sure will miss it. Hope Google aren't planning to retire anything else!
And number two - I am looking for some advice/tips/wisdom on blogging from a tablet (ipad, kindle fire, nexus or any other). Not sure if I can stretch the budget but I have been curious for some time about blogging from a tablet - how easy is it to blog with blogger on a tablet? Which tablet do you use? What has been your experience? Any pitfalls you can help me avoid? Or suggestions to make life easier? I would dearly love to be able to pick up emails and catch up on blogs on the hop and know that tablets will do this, but it would be good to also be able to blog if possible. I'm not really very techy or knowledgeable and have heard some less than encouraging comments, but maybe you folks will know more.
If you are able to help, I'd love to hear your experiences/suggestions.
I don't use google reader. It confuses me. I have all the blogs I read regularly in the sidebar of my blog and watch for updates there.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a tablet. However, for ipads I think the attachable keyboards that are also covered are fabulous for those who regularly type on them. I think Logitech (?) do one that looks like it's made by Apple and part of the ipad. The downside is brilliant as they are they're about £80 which is pricey on top of the tablet.
You have a few options but the most popular is Feedly and bloglovin... I've switched to Feedly and it is very different to Google reader but I think has a lot of momentum at the moment. It has both a Web based reader and apps which is why I have chosen it over bloglovin... But I'm finding it to be a steep learning curve.
ReplyDeleteI don't use google reader either. I have a nexus 7 tablet, which is a google based tablet. So all my pictures, music etc that I have on my laptop is there on my tablet (and my phone too). I blog from it and can instagram, twitter etc etc too, I love it and it wasn;t so expensive either
ReplyDeleteI haven't a clue!!!
ReplyDeleteOoh... I am learning. Keep the comments coming! Di x
ReplyDeleteI do not know anything about google reader- I have my blogs that I love on my side bar, and keep up as best I can. Trouble is, I keep finding new interesting ones! cannot keep up with everyone. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteWhen I sign in to Blogger, I get a 'reading list' that has all the posts from my selected Blogs. That's how I stay up to date... Not sure if it just works for Blogger blogs though.
ReplyDeleteI have an iPad, and it's grand for commenting on posts and maybe writing a short post, but it's a bit awkward otherwise, just because it's hard to type at any length on the on screen keyboard. I'd probably want to get one of te attachable keyboards if I was going to use it regularly for blogging.
I'm the same as Tina above! But I do,love my iPad for everything else!
ReplyDeleteOn this topic I'm completely and utterly useless to you my friend! So soz! Jxo
ReplyDeleteI'm not a techi and just use what works for me. As I use firefox on my laptop I've downloaded the Newsfox add on and imported all the blogs I follow from Google Reader. I find it easy to use. Feedly seems to feature quite high on the list of other options on offer. To make it easy for others to follow my blog I'm also going to be adding Bloglovin which also lets you import your reader list and so far it seems user friendly.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea about tablets and iphones and as I'm thinking of upgrading from Blackberry I'll keep an eye on the advice that others offer you here.
You are asking the wrong person here. I keep all my favourite blogs in the sidebar, well at least I think I do!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've just moved over to Bloglovin, you can import from Google Reader is a couple of clicks too and when you log in, those blogs with updates are shown on the right hand side of the page so it's quite similar. Give me a shout if you get stuck importing if you go this way.
