Stocking up

I have been busying away in a few spare moments over the past four or five days at stocking up some makes for our forthcoming Fundraiser/Exhibition early next month.

In spite of really not wanting to admit to myself that Christmas isn't so very far off, I forced myself to start thinking festive in the hope that an early November stitch sale might attract a few folks looking for Christmassy items.

Christmas Stockings - hoping folks might be interested in hanging one of these up at the beginning of Dec.

And, bunting - again for Christmas decorations (2 sets) and potentially for gift purchases (3 sets).

As you can see, these makes are still not quite finished but hopefully a wee stitchy afternoon with the other Bee Blessed bees on Saturday will soon tidy these up.  Along with a wee pile of baby taggies and a host of brooches I'm hoping that my contribution to the sale table is respectable.  Now just fingers crossed that they will sell, although I admit some of those brooches are going to be an acquired taste!

Broochfest!

Yesterday I decided that it was time to tackle the brooches I had taken with me to FQR but never quite got around to working on. I stitched up these Liberty yoyos with some co-ordinating solids - ash, purple and a steel blue colour Riley Blake solid that came in my FQR goodie bag.

These ones were little oddments that I started at a workshop long ago and figured I should just add a brooch pin and somebody might buy them. Admittedly they aren't the prettiest, but they might appeal to someone and raise a penny or two for Bee Blessed.

Some more in hot, bright colours which I had cut with the intention of making up in January. Seems the deep, grey winter was making me long for some colour!

Last week as I was tidying away the scrap remnants from my MIL's Birthday Sampler quilt, I suddenly thought that the fabric trimmings would make sweet brooches. So I played with the soluble fabric and my slivers and made more scrappy fabric to cut wee hearts and flowers from. The first one will be for my MIL.

And this little lot should hopefully attract our exhibition visitors to part with their cash. These are my favourites I think.

So, brooches made, job done and a tick off my August list! Successful stitching Saturday.

Last Pressies Finished!

Ssshhh......

You need to be quiet please because my sewing machine is sleeping.  She is having a well deserved rest after her pressie making fest.  The last of my presents is stitched, pressed and wrapped and here they are  in a quick sneek peek for you -

made from Artsy Craftsy Babe's Pleated Tote Bag tutorial
triple pocket inside the bag - I love this lining!
Someone has dropped lots of hints about the shape and size of a bag I made for myself earlier this year being just perfect so this one is now taped up inside festive paper with their name on the tag.  Bit nervous about my fabric choice on this one. I love it and would happily keep it for myself, just not so sure what the recipient will make of it.

I had a little play with quilting the lining on this one and really like the wavy line gridwork that I ended up with.  I would like to try this out on a quilt sometime soon (is it just me who thinks it's scary to try something different when quilting?), just have to pluck up the courage to give it a go.

And (drumroll please) as my final handmade pressies I finished up this bouquet of crocheted brooches.

A couple of these are specifically destined for some stockings but the rest are little pot luck pressies for those who would like one at our family Boxing Day gathering.  I know you don't see blue roses too many places but I think the blue/teal ones are my favourites in this bunch.

Phew!  It's been quite a month or two of making, but I do hope it'll be worth it when folks open their gifts this weekend.

Hope your gift making is going well too!

Crochet Gift Reveal

Remember this sneaky peek a few days ago?

Well, I can show you now because they've arrived with their new owner.  It was these ...

A little set of crochet coasters for Susan - just to say thank you for her thoughtfulness and kindness since we have become blog friends.  I hope she likes them!

And I added one of my little brooches - just because.

Thank you Susan!
