Le Challenge - 5

Le Challenge

Well, I may have wimped out over the "toffee" theme for the last Le Challenge and I have to admit that I didn't think I was going to make it for "heroes" either, until I realised that I was working on something that would fit the bill perfectly. At least I think so.  I worked on the embroidery at FQR this summer, finished it on my hols and after wondering what to do with it, took Jan's advice and put it back in the hoop and hung it in the sewing room.

This little embroidery design from Nana Company is my entry for September's Le Challenge.

The words are an abbreviation of Mother Teresa's quotation which I have in the side bar of my blog - "We can do no great things, only small things with great love.
It is not how much you do, but how much love you put into doing it."

Giving so much of your own life to care for the poor, the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the blind, lepers, those who feel unwanted, unloved and uncared for is pretty heroic I think.

Don't forget to hop on over to Le Challenge to see the other heroic makes this month.

Le Challenge # 3 - Maritime

Le Challenge

Over at Le Challenge the theme set for June was "maritime" - just in time to get us all in the summer hols mood.

I thought it over and realised I had just the pattern for this theme, courtesy of Just Jude Designs and a cushion class I took a few summers ago.  That cushion was given away as a gift to my niece, so this month's challenge was the perfect excuse to make a wee row of beach huts to keep all for myself.

Hee hee - these make me smile!

I adapted the sizing of the cushion pattern to make a smaller version to fit over a stretched canvas from a bargain shop, and just neatly wrapped the quilty pic around the frame fixing in place on the back with a staple gun.

And now they are adding a little spot of cheery colour to my empty bathroom wall!

Now I'm off to check out the other maritime makes on the Le Challenge linky!

Le Challenge # 2 - Wings

Le Challenge

I've taken up Le Challenge again this month with a little bit more notice to myself than last month's eleventh hour decision!  So here's what I made for "wings" -

Little crochet butterfly magnets for my sewing room noticeboard.  They were stitched from this lovely tutorial if you are interested.

My sewing room is being prettified a little bit at a time with these challenges!

Le Challenge #1 - Geometrics

For the past month I've seen a few mentions of Lucy and Nat's monthly Le Challenge popping up on some friendly blogs and thought that sounded like a fun idea.  I just didn't quite get around to deciding to actually participate.  Until last night at 11 pm that is!!  I think I may have had a moment of sweet insanity, but here I am joining in having only taken the decisive leap 24 hrs ago.

So, what do you make to fulfil Le Challenge when you've given yourself precisely two and a half hours of a Monday night to create something in the geometric theme?  A little quilted coaster of course!

This is a little 4" paper pieced Lemoyne Star block, border added and lovely geometrically quilted chevrons to finish.  I could kick myself for changing my fabric choice on the star points after I started stitching.  I got so carried away by loving the pink berry print that I completely forgot it wouldn't contrast with the white background fabric like my original green choice would have. Doh!  Anyway, it's just for me in my sewing space and I like it.  Eh voila, le challenge is met!

Are you playing along?  Fancy having a go next month?  Nat and Lucy's theme for next time is wings!   Hmm, might need more than 24hrs for that one!
